Sangria Granita

Makes about 8 servings
Ingredients
- 2 cups water
- 1 cup sugar
- 2 cups red wine
- 1/2 cup orange juice
- 2 tablespoons brandy
- 1/2 lemon, thinly sliced
- 1/2 orange, thinly sliced
- 6 whole cloves
- 1 cinnamon stick
- Garnish: orange slices
Instructions
- In a small saucepan, combine water and sugar. Bring to a boil over medium-high heat; reduce heat, and simmer, stirring until sugar dissolves. Remove from heat.
- In a medium saucepan, combine wine, orange juice, brandy, lemon slices, orange slices, cloves, and cinnamon stick; bring to a boil over medium-high heat. Reduce heat, and simmer for 10 minutes. Remove from heat, and let stand for 30 minutes. Strain mixture, discarding solids.
- In a medium bowl, combine sugar mixture and wine mixture. Pour into an 11x7-inch baking dish. Cover and freeze for at least 8 hours or until firm. Scrape mixture with a fork until fluffy. Garnish with orange slices, if desired.
Notes
- For a nonalcoholic version, substitute grape juice for wine and omit brandy.
